Optical Microscopy

The RUAG Space Materials Test Lab is certified for Non Destructive inspection of different structures and materials and for destructive testing methods as well. Because of the extensive experience and expertise gained during many years of testing our in-house projects, combined with the specialised test facilities developed in this time, ensure a reliable partner is available for all test services.
To investigate micro sectioned parts but also other samples more closely, an optical microscope and stereoscope is available. The maximum resolution, that are achievable with our devices, is up to 1000 x. Grain structures of etched metal surfaces can be made visible using polarized light for which a range of polarizing filters is offered to the user. The microscopy is used for many more purposes like fibre volume content, microstructures, pore content, coating thickness and detection of non-metallic inclusions in stainless steels.
