Computed tomography

Computed Tomographic analysis (CT) in accordance to ISO 15708 / ASTM E1441 standards and VG Studio Max software reconstruction allow to obtain an external and internal view of the component, making it possible to investigate the presence of:

  • defects in the material
  • assembly errors in points that are normally not accessible and/or visible
  • component functioning defects
  • errors in the alignment of internal components

The GE V TOME X M300 microfocus tomographic machine represents the best compromise between power (up to 300kV/500W) and resolution, with recognisability of details in the order of a micron.

The “metrology edition” version also allows for precision measurements with accuracy specifications of 4+L/100um, in reference to the VDI 2630 guidelines.

These features allow for dimensional checks to be performed on both external and internal entities of the sample, which are especially important in the additive manufacturing field. Using the VG Studio Max SW, it is also possible to perform nominal-real 3D CAD comparisons, wall thickness measurement and reverse engineering.

The V TOME X M300 industrial microCT system is equipped with scatter-correct technology that offers the possibility of obtaining a higher quality of images and reconstruction of 3D volumes compared to traditional CT systems.

This allows to perform internal defect analyses on both metallic and polymeric components, such as cracks, inclusions and porosity. Of the latter it is possible to perform a quantitative 3D analysis, obtaining the main dimensional characteristics (volume, diameter, position etc.).

The segmentation functionality present in the processing software allows the analysis, visualization and virtual separation of the parts that make up the scanned object.

This allows the verification of correct assembly, the measurement of geometric and dimensional tolerances and the analysis of interferences between internal parts that would otherwise not be detectable by disassembling the sample.
